Makalu trek takes you through isolated valleys and high mountain passes to the base of the world’s fifth highest mountain – Mt.Makalu. The majority of the trek route lies inside Makalu-Barun national park, famous for a beautiful and variant array of flora and fauna. Here you will find some of Nepal’s most amazing scenery, ranging from the sweeping Arun river valley, over the Barun La (4200m), to the remorseless Ice fields surrounding Makalu (8463 m). Trekking through the Arun valley offers you the best opportunity to observe many of our country’s bird species, including the Spiny Babbler, the only species of its kind in the world. Practically untouched, this region has much more to offer you besides birds and wildlife… find out for yourself!
The Makalu Base Camp Trek starts from the small hill town of Hile, accessible by road or air, or through Tumblingtar, khadbari is district headquarters of Sunkhwasabha.

Detail Itinerary
Day 01: Arrive in TIA, Kathmandu
On this particular day you will land on Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu where you will be warmly received by the representative staffs from Beyond the Limits Treks and Expedition. From TIA, you will be transferred into the hotel in a comfortable vehicle. These tiny things show how much we care for you. Arriving in the hotel we will be discussed on the detail itinerary. Stay overnight in hotel.
Day 02: Full say sightseeing in Kathmandu
This is an important day where you get to sightseeing Kathmandu in the proper guidance of our guide. Since you have lots of things to sight we will be heading in an early morning. There used to an artistic and valuable Durbar Square, at present those monuments are in critical state though it is equally valued. In Kathmandu you can observe numerous cultural heritage sites which are listed in UNESCO, counting Swyambhunath, Bouddhanath and Pashupatinath. Stay overnight in hotel.
Day 03: Full day sightseeing in Patan and Bhaktapur
This is counted as 2nd sightseeing day at Patan and Bhaktapur where you will find several cultural heritage sites, listed by UNESCO. At Patan you can sight Patan Durbar Square, Golden temple, Patan Museum and Mahaboudhha temple. Likewise, at Bhaktapur you can outlook Bhaktapur Durbar Square,Dattatraya temple and many more things. Exploring the cultural aspects is another significant part of sightseeing. Stay overnight in hotel.
Day 04: Fly to Tumlingtar and trek to Khandbari
On the following day of trek you will drive to the airport and from there you will catch the flight to Tumlingtar. Enjoying the scenic flight to Tumlingtaryou will start to trek Khandbari, experience the first trek. Stay overnight in tented camp.
Day 05: Trek to Chicila
On the following day you will head to Chichila, a small Gurung settlement area. From Chicila you will upgrade the level of trek so you will take some rest and look for essential things. Stay overnight in tented camp.
Day 06: Trek to Num
On the following day you will begin the trek in an early morning, heading to Num. You will carry out moderate walk all through the scenic villages and tempting mountain which will later take you to Num. Stay overnight in tented camp.
Day 07: Trek to Seduwa (school Danda)
Leaving Num you will go for vertical downhill all through the forest and pastureland, which will take you to Barun River. You will pass the river and go after alike steep upward. This is the area where Makalu Barun National Park belong and you will register taking permission for the camp. Stay overnight in tented camp.
Day 08: Trek to Tashigaon
Taking ascend through the rim bounded by the IpsuwaKhola on the west and in the east by KasuwaKhola will make you pass the hillside all through the quiet villages. You will pass the tiny fields and arrive at the exotic village of Tashigaon. Stay overnight in tented camp.
Day 09: Trek to Kauma
On the following day you will walk on the vertical trail approaching high altitude. You will take upward move through the stream and rim from where the trail starts to take steeper and will pass a kharka. Then, you will turn up at Kauma. Stay overnight in tented camp.
Day 10: Trek to Mumbuk
On the next day you will leave Kauma and head to Mumbuk, a beautiful destination to carry out the trek. You will outlook amazing landscape of Chhamlang and Tutu La (4,050m) pass, crossing Barun River. Stay overnight in tented camp.
Day 11: Trek to YangleKharka
Then, on this day you will trek around 4 to 5 hours passing all the way to attractive forest, meadows and some mountain peaks. The wonderful rock cliffs will make the trek a much exciting and finally you will head to the large pastureland camp. Stay overnight in tented camp.
Day 12: Trek to Mera
On the following day you will trek further coming across the RipukKharka (3,930m). Continuing the trek from YangleKharka will take you tMera, today’s destination for the trek. Stay overnight in tented camp.
Day 13: Trek to Makalu Base Camp
Heading further will set the trekking trail to Makalu Base Camp which will offer a glorious sight of the south face of Makalu Base Camp. Taking some ascend viewing stunning Buruntse (7,220m), Lhotse and Everest will make the trek mesmerizing. Stay overnight in tented camp.
Day 14: Rest day at Makalu Base Camp
This is considered as a day for rest as you are moving into the wilderness of nature your body may demand rest. We will give you several information for acclimatize your body. To strengthen your muscles you can trek short stroll. Stay overnight in tented camp.
Day 15: Trek to YangleKharka
After an acclimatization day you will retrace the trekking route via Barun River. Again trekking to YangleKharka will introduce the exotic nature in a different way. Then, you will set the camp at YangleKharka. Stay overnight in tented camp.
Day 16: Trek to Kauma (3,470m)
Heading further from YangleKharka will take you to Kauma. The serene nature the beautiful environment will make you feel happy. Stay overnight in tented camp.
Day 17: Trek to Nava Gaon
On the following day you will head to Nava Gaon after departing Kauma. The untouched nature, the lifestyle of people staying near to it and their simple life style will make you think about them. Stay overnight in tented camp.
Day 18: Trek to Num
Leaving Nava Gaon you will set into motion to Num. Num is a thriving place which will connect the route to Gagane. Stay overnight in tented camp.
Day 19: Trek to Gagane
You will carry out the trek to Gagane, leaving Num and it is the destination that comes before Tumlingtar. Trekking through the lush forest and rough trail will take you to Gagane. Stay overnight in tented camp.
Day 20: Trek to Tumlingtar
From Gagane you will go back to Chichira and this is the place you can relish the glorious vistas of Mt. Makalu for final time. Then, you will arrive at Tumlingtar and it will further make you depart for Kathmandu on the nextday. Stay overnight in lodge.
Day 21: Fly back to Kathmandu
On this day you will fly to Kathmandu from Tumlingtar airport. You will be viewing mountains and forest. Arriving at Kathmandu you will check in the hotel and have rest as you have spent several days at the wilderness place. Stay overnight in hotel.
Day 22: Free day in Kathmandu
This is supposed to be leisure day where you will take rest but if you wish you can utilize the spare time in shopping or visiting the nearby places of Kathmandu. You will return soon as you have to pack your baggage properly. Stay overnight in hotel.
Day 23: Departure from Kathmandu
This is the concluding day where you will be departure from us. Before that you will be transferred into the TIA, Kathmandu safely and affectionately. From TIA, you can catch the flight towards your home town or go for next package. It’s glad to be the part of your adventure.
